What are the rules of water polo?

Water polo is a team sport where two teams compete against each other. The game is played in a rectangular pool, typically divided into four zones.

Each zone is divided into a forward area and a back zone. On the sides of the pool, there are two goal lines. A white line on the side of the collection marks the goal line. The other side of the goal line is a blue line. The team that scores a goal gets two points.

How to play Polo

The game of Polo is a team sport played by two teams on a floating pool with a long, flexible rubber ball. Each unit has a player on the water and one on the shore.

Both players must hit the ball from a fixed position on the ground to the opposite side of the pool. The objective is to score more goals than the opponent.

There are two variations of polo games:

  • Standard – played on an outdoor grass field,
  • Indoor – played in a swimming pool,

The standard variation has four goals, while the indoor version has only one goal.

Each team has four players:

  • A goalkeeper,
  • Two forwards,
  • One defender,
  • And one substitute.

The goalkeeper plays a very important role in the game. He controls the goal and tries to block the opposing team’s shots.

The forwards are the team’s main players. They try to score goals by hitting the ball with their hands, feet, or paddles.

The defenders are the second line of defense. They try to intercept the opponents’ shots and stop them from entering the goal.

The substitute is a backup player for the team. The reserve is only allowed to enter the game if the first two players are injured or unable to play.

What is the best equipment for playing water polo?

While some may think you must spend a fortune on equipment, this is untrue. You can play water polo with a rubber ball and a pool.

Some of the most important pieces of equipment are the goalie mask and goalposts. Goalie masks protect the face from damage when the ball hits it.

If you want to play water polo on a large scale, you can also consider investing in water polo tables. These tables have the same dimensions as a swimming pool and can be placed anywhere. Metal goalposts are used to set up a goal at the pool’s center.

Another important piece of equipment is the ball. The ball must be very soft and feel similar to a beach ball.

What is the difference between pool and beach water polo?

While the game and the sport’s rules are similar, the types of water polo games differ depending on where the event is being held.

The most common type of water polo is pool water polo, which is most popular in the US and Canada. Beach water polo is more popular in Europe.

The rules of pool water polo are slightly different from those of beach water polo, though, and are much more complicated.
